One Run One Family One La Salle - Congratulations!
LSGH 74
To all the people, especially the La Sallians, who cooked up this idea about a July 13 Fun Run (Orofols) - Congratulations!
In my humble opinion, I find this activity worthwhile. Among other things, it tries to bring together La Sallians. But more important, this activity is open to the public from all walks. The public, which the La Sallian values espoused by the institution, are to be the beneficiaries of that so-called La Sallian education. Yes, I don't feel being elitist at all.
I just registered my batchmates this morning at LSGH and I met a civilian, not connected with La Salle, who registered 11 of his buddies for the 16K category. With that, I can see that this activity will be a "running success".
Some batchmates of mine, together with our kids, are going to attend this 3K fun/WALK just to experience first hand what this OROFOLS is all about. Perhaps we may also get a renewed whiff of what that so-called La Salle Spirit is all about.
Again, Congatulations to the organizers!

July 13, 2008, SundayThe Fort, Taguig (Assembly at 5:30am near NBC Tent; Race will start promptly at 6:00am)
A large number of participants are expected at the La Salle Cares inaugural event, the One Run One Family One La Salle. Some 5,000 Lasallian Brothers, students, faculty, non-academic personnel, parents, alumni and friends are expected to be at the starting line on July 13, to compete in three race formats – 3K, 5K and 16K. Pet Lovers are also expected to participate in the special 3K event.
Dr. Elis Maghirang, VP for DLSAA Spiritual Formation & Vocations Committee and co-head of La Salle Cares, is also an organizing member of OROFOLS. His professional specialization is emergency medicine. He has made arrangements with the Philippine Association of Emergency Medical Service Personnel (PAEMSP) to provide first aid and emergency services.
There will be First Aid Stations at every 500 ~ 1,000 meters throughout the 3K, 5K and 16K routes. In addition, there will be at least 5 ambulances from PAEMSP to assist emergency cases, manned by some 30 qualified doctors, paramedics and emergency personnel. They will also be assisted by DLS-Health Science Institute emergency team, headed by Dr. Deo Panganiban.*
OROFOLS encourages all participants to ensure that they are physically fit before joining the fun run, to take sufficient amount of liquid during and after the event, and to follow the marshalls and take extra care during the run.

Global City Run
Bonifacio Global City seems to be the hottest running venue these days. Their spacious, tree-lined streets and extensive orderly service are unbeatable.
The 4th Annual BGC Fun Run, in partnership with Anta, had over 1,500 entrants. Then the Fun Run for A Cause raised P43,000 for Taguig Science High School. The school is being subsidized under the leadership of Mayor Freddie Tiñga.
Yet another race was the 2nd Japan Airlines Run, raising funds for the benefit of the Aetas in the Tent City in Pampanga. I ran all these, the last with a Hello Kitty tiara, since Hello Kitty had flown in from Japan just to award the winners and finishers, accompanied by JAL head Toshio Morita and Gift Gate queen Virgie Ramos.
And there's another race coming. On July 13, La Salle Cares is organizing "One Run. One Family. One La Salle." This inaugural event will launch LS Cares, a charity of De La Salle Alumni Association for its charitable projects. Log on to http://lasallecares.org/orofols/index.html to register for this fun run.

Assembly 5:30am, near NBC Tent. Race will start promptly at 6:00am (a project of La Salle Cares and presented in cooperation with Nike Philippines).
Every participant will receive a special OROFOLS Singlet (sleeveless shirt for running), supplied by Nike Philippines. The cost and value of the Singlet is more that the Two Hundred Pesos (P200) registration fee. Here's a preview of the Singlet.
During the event, Nike will also be launching its latest running shoe, the Nike Zoom Victory, which uses an innovative technology similar to Nike footwear to be worn by the world's best athletes at the Beijing Olympics 2008.
Nike Zoom Victory Spike
Weight wise, 100 grams has always been the Holy Grail for a track spike. When Michael Johnson came to Nike, designers did everything possible to shave weight from his spike to make it light enough for his gold medal win, and still his famous Gold Shoe weighed in at 112 grams. That track spike, though, was meant to be worn for no more than 40 seconds by one person for one race. So to say you can make something under 100g was a lofty challenge, particularly when the spike was to be designed for middle-distance and distance runners who need more support and cushioning in their shoes since they compete in them longer. This was the challenge that ultimately became the Nike Zoom Victory Spike.
Researchers in the Nike Sports Research Lab (NSRL) knew it was possible to get a spike that light. They just needed the right tools to create a track spike that was strong enough to support specific competitive needs—like around the corners of a track where runners experience the greatest sheer loads—but light enough to get runners around the track faster.
Lots of prizes to be won...including Nike products.
